PHYSIOTHERAPY
At RELIV Pain Center, physiotherapy plays a vital role in the management of acute and chronic pain.

A coordinated effort by the doctor and physiotherapist is essential in speedy recovery and functional rehabilitation. Functional rehabilitation means that the patient is able to resume his daily activities as before.

The main aim of physiotherapy is to reduce pain and allow the patient to get back to work with the least possible dependence on medication. Further, physiotherapy helps to reduce inflammation, muscle spasm and pain, while at the same time increases range of motion, muscle strength and mobility. It encourages an early return to normal activities.

As the therapy progresses, our physiotherapists provide more intensive rehabilitation interventions such as exercise and manual therapy. Physiotherapy exercises play an important part in the recovery of patients with musculoskeletal conditions or disorders.

At RELIV Pain Center, we have tie ups with several physiotherapists to provide you interruption free treatment. Home visits are organised for maximum benefit and comfort. A lady physiotherapist is available when so desired.

Physiotherapy at RELIV Pain Center

At Reliv, pain management is an all-round approach, and so is physiotherapy. We practise both passive and active therapies for maximum benefit.

Passive Therapies

Passive treatment mainly focuses on pain relief, which is done by physiotherapist with the help of equipments. Passive physiotherapy is necessary in the early stages of pain or injury. Passive therapy includes the following,

  • Massage
  • Hot & Cold Application
  • Ultrasound
  • Diathermy
  • Laser
  • TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation)
  • Acupuncture

Active therapy

Active therapy encompasses physical involvement of patient. The joint or muscle movement is done by the patient with/without the assistance of physiotherapist. Active physiotherapy includes exercises such as exercise and posture/gait correction. Active treatments helps to relieve chronic pain by building or reconditioning your muscles so that they can move more normally.

Active Physiotherapy includes,

  • Stretching
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Pain relief exercise
  • Low-impact aerobic conditioning

McKenzie Method

Our physiotherapist is trained in the McKenzie Method, which is an overall program of assessment, treatment and prevention strategies (including exercise).

The long-term goal of the McKenzie Method is to teach patients suffering from neck pain and/or back pain how to treat themselves and manage their own pain for life using exercise and other strategies. Other goals include:

  • Reduce pain quickly
  • Return to normal functioning in daily activities
  • Minimize the risk of recurring pain (avoid painful postures and movements)
  • Minimize the number of return visits to the spine specialist

The McKenzie method (also MDT = Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy) is a comprehensive method of care primarily used in physical therapy

The main differences of the McKenzie Method compared to traditional Physiotherapy are as follows:

  • The Assessment Process involves the testing of Repeated
  • Approximately 80% of patients will experience and immediate change to their symptoms
  • This allows us to determine which exercise you can perform, to “Treat Your-self” and give you instant relief.
  • The exercise that reduces your symptoms forms the basis of your “treatment”.
  • A large focus of the session is based on educating you how and why you developed your problem, what you can do to treat yourself, and how to resolve this episode and prevent future recurrences.

Although the McKenzie Method is most well-known for its rapid relief for problems arising from the back or neck, it works equally as effective for extremity joints such as knees, hips, ankles, shoulders, wrists and elbow problems. Many common problems that are thought of as chronic problems that are slow to improve or fail to improve with common physiotherapy and other types of treatment rapidly respond to repeated or sustained movements.
